Unlocking the Path to Healing
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized therapy designed to help you recover from trauma and distressing life experiences—including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic. When we face an overwhelming event, the brain sometimes “shuts down” to protect us. These memories become “frozen” or unprocessed, stored in the body and mind in their original, painful state. Years later, these memories can resurface as:
Avoidance
Steering clear of certain places, people, or situations.
Hyper-vigilance
Getting easily startled by sudden noises or movements.
Intrusive Emotions
Feeling intense distress or panic without knowing why.
The Role of Parts Work in Your Healing
I believe true trauma-informed care requires internal stability—without it, deep healing cannot take root. This is why I integrate Parts Work (Ego State Therapy) into my EMDR practice. Rather than just talking about a memory, we listen to the “parts” of you that may still be stuck in the past—feeling alone or believing it was their fault. Whether we establish this foundation at the start or introduce it during reprocessing, this integration allows us to:
Build an Internal Connection
We establish a relationship where your adult self and these younger parts can finally reconnect.
Challenge Old Narratives
Your parts will learn that there is life after the incident and that external messages like "You are bad" are simply not true.
Create Lasting Safety
By ensuring you feel supported from the inside out, we create the necessary foundation to move through EMDR effectively and safely.
How EMDR Helps
The goal of EMDR is to provide awareness of where your present struggles originated and to “re-educate” your brain that the past is over.
Release the Grip of the Past
You begin to realize that you are no longer that vulnerable child or in that dangerous situation; the perpetrator is gone, and you are safe now.
Reduced Reactivity
Things that used to trigger intense stress or panic lose their power over you.
Clarity and Freedom
You gain the ability to respond to your life today with clarity rather than through the lens of old pain.

Frequently Asked Questions about EMDR
What does an EMDR session actually feel like?
Is it like hypnosis?
How many sessions will it take?
The timeline is unique to every individual and depends on the nature of the experiences we are addressing:
For Single-Incident Trauma: Once we begin reprocessing, many clients experience significant relief in just a few sessions.
For Complex (Childhood) Trauma: This work often requires a longer commitment. In these cases, it is critical to use Parts Work to build a strong internal foundation, ensuring that the healing process is deep, safe, and lasting.
Will I have to "relive" the trauma in detail in our session?
EMDR does not require you to describe every painful detail out loud. We focus on the sensations and beliefs currently stuck in your system. By integrating Parts of Work, we ensure that we only move at a pace that feels safe for your internal “parts,” preventing you from feeling overwhelmed.
